Global Wind Organisation Basic Technical Training (GWO BTT)

Purpose:

This Global Wind Organisation Basic Technical Training Installation course is designed to build or formalise the basic technical and safety skills required to work in onsite wind turbine installation. 

Accreditation:

Upon successful completion of this GWO Basic Technical Training Installation course, delegates will receive certification on the WINDA system for the following Modules

  • GWO BTT Mechanical 
  • GWO BTT Bolt Tightening
  • GWO BTT Installation

Successful completion requires full attendance at the training and completion of all practical and theory assessments. 

Admission requirements:

The Basic Technical Training (BTT) modules have no technical training pre-requisites. 
Learners need to be registered on the WINDA Database before attending the course.

Training Skills and Knowledge Outcomes:

Mechanical


The aim of this module is to enable the participants to be able to perform basic mechanical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. It builds theoretical and practical understanding of:


•    Main components, mechanical systems and the basic operation of wind turbines.
•    Risks and hazards associated when working with mechanical systems.
•    Principles of bolted and welded connections and their inspection.
•    Practical use of manual tightening and measuring tools.
•    Principles of a gearbox.
•    Functions of the brake, yaw, cooling and lubrication systems and their control.


Bolt Tightening


Skills and Knowledge to support the safety and quality of bolt tightening using energy powered tools and accessories in the wind industry. This module covers both how to tighten bolts safely and correctly, and how to plan, document and review of bolt tightening tasks.  The module prepares participants for company specific bolt tightening training, through scenario-based training.


Installation


The aim of this BTT Installation Module is to enable the participants to work safely on basic installation tasks under supervision in a wind turbine environment. It builds theoretical and practical understanding of:


•    Main installation activities and the overall risks and hazards associated with the installation environment:
•    Checklist system throughout the complete installation process.
•    Characteristics of the installation environment.
•    Principles and standards for handling and storing goods and components before and after installation.
•    Main principles of the lifting equipment.
•    Preparation of main components before installation.
•    Principles of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical completion.
•    How to do a handover to commissioning.
